The Avocado Green Is Perfect For You If…
If a greener sleep experience is important, Avocado Green could be for you. Consumers aiming for eco-conscious living and sustainability can feel good about having this durable, luxurious bed in their home. Here are some things to consider as part of the Avocado Green bed review.
For those that want or need the support of an innerspring bed, the Avocado performs well. The standard bed is medium-firm but with the optional 2” pillowtop, you get a medium sleep experience with enhanced pressure relief. For lightweight and side sleepers, the pillowtop upgrade performs better.
The firmer model works well for heavier people because of the zoned support in the innerspring core. This 100% natural latex hybrid bed is also good for people with lower back pain. Be sure to read the full Avocado Green mattress review before you buy.
The Avocado Green Might Not Be Perfect For You If…
The Avocado Green may not be the best choice for stomach sleepers. As this is the rarest sleep position, most buyers won’t be affected. Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface and should consider only the standard firmer option of this mattress.
The Avocado is rated 7 on the firmness scale of 1 to 10. This is better for stomach sleepers. Also, if you stomach sleep or weigh more than 250 pounds, you should not upgrade to the thicker pillowtop. Last, if you have a latex allergy, you should avoid this bed even if the allergy is mild.
Avocado Green Mattress Construction
The Avocado Green bed is 11” thick with an optional 2” Euro-style pillowtop. The standard bed has three layers, and if you buy the Euro-top upgrade, there’s a fourth. Inside the standard bed are a base layer, innerspring support core, and the upper comfort layer.
From bottom to top, here’s what is inside the Avocado Green:
Base Layer - Latex
A 1” layer of all-natural Dunlop latex (D-65, 14-19 ILD) is the base of this bed to stabilize the mattress and supplement support while reducing motion transfer and mattress movement.
Support Core - Innerspring
The 8” pocket coil support core provides airflow, support, and alignment with a three-zone design of independent coils. The coils offer more support where you need it - under shoulders and hips - plus on the edges of the bed. The metal in the steel wire is upcycled and eco-preferable.
Comfort Layer – Latex
The 2” comfort layer is all-natural Dunlop latex (D65) for relief of pressure points, contour and hug without an excessive sink-in effect. It’s a luxury sleep experience. The comfort layer offers resiliency and bounce for sex while reducing motion transfer. The pincore holes aid cooling.
Optional European Pillowtop – Latex
For those that want a lusher sleep experience, there’s an available Euro-top pillowtop comfort layer that’s 2” of Dunlop latex (D65). This layer provides added pressure relief for sensitive spots like shoulders and hips.
Cover – Organic wool and cotton
The cover is certified organic cotton and recycled poly-blend. It’s durable, non-toxic, and encourages airflow. Under the cover is pure New Zealand wool that wicks moisture and regulates temperature. On each side are hand-sewn upholstered handles and on top are hand-tufted buttons and rosettes.
Firmness, Comfort, and Support
The concept of firmness
Most mattress shoppers are concerned with firmness but might not know how the firmness of a bed is determined. Beds have two distinct parts: the support core and the comfort layer. The support core, down deep in the bed drives the overall firmness and how well it supports your spine.
There may be one or more comfort layers as the top layers of the bed. Mattress softness (i.e., how plush it feels) depends on this layer. How much you sink down into the bed is the contour, and it’s the comfort layer that relieves pressure on your shoulders and hips.
If the bed is too firm or too soft, you may wake with an achy back and joints. Ideally, the support core will keep your spine aligned in a neutral position no matter if you sleep on side, back, or stomach. The comfort layer should give you a comfortable contour without excessive sinking-in sensation.
Firmness is rated on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being softest and 10 the firmest. Most people sleep well in the middle of the scale, at medium-firm to firm between 5 and 8. Very heavy people need a firmer bed with more support while lightweight people prefer a softer bed.
Avocado Green’s firmness
The standard Avocado is luxury firm, rated 7 on the above scale. If you want something plusher, the optional Euro-top layer brings the bed down to a softness of 6. In a latex hybrid like this, the pocket coil functions as a very firm support core for excellent spinal alignment.
The latex in the comfort layer is rated at D65 and 14-19 ILD. The D indicates “density,” and ILD stands for Impression Load Deflection which measures how much weight it takes to compress the mattress. In the case of Avocado Green, the latex in its comfort layer is soft and dense.
Avocado uses Dunlop latex which is denser and firmer than Talalay, the other type of latex. The mattress latex is durable and should be long-lasting for a consistent sleep experience from the first night and for years to come.
How Does Avocado Green Sleep?
The Avocado Green latex hybrid mattress is responsive when you first lie down on it. The all-natural latex has a nice bounce for sex, and it’s easy to shift position on the bed as you sleep. The coils make the bed supportive, but the latex keeps it from feeling too firm.
The three zones in the pocket coils are designed to give you more support under your shoulders and hips while also keeping your spine aligned. Back and stomach sleepers will find this eco-friendly latex bed offers an excellent sleep experience.
Here’s what else you should know about the Avocado Green mattress sleep experience.
The pincore holes in the latex and enhanced airflow from the pocket coils let this bed sleep cool while still providing the contour and hug that nicely relieve pressure. The organic cotton cover is knit and stretchy to wick moisture and further promote cooling.
Motion transfer is the energy generated when you or your partner shift and that can cause tremors across the bed. The subtle sink-in sensation of the latex in the Avocado bed prevents most motion transfer that’s common with innerspring beds.
One concern with new mattresses is off-gassing, i.e., the smell sometimes given off by newly manufactured items when unpackaged as chemicals break down. Because the latex is all-natural, and the other materials are eco-friendly and organic, there is little to no aroma after unboxing the bed.
A primary concern with buying a new mattress is how long it will last. A bed that is all-latex lasts longer than a hybrid, but overall, the Avocado Green hybrid was designed for durability. However, since the company was only founded in 2016, the final verdict on its durability is pending.

The Avocado Green latex hybrid is not a low-price bed. However, without the pillowtop option, it’s more affordable. The main thing to understand with this mattress is what you’re getting for the money. The latex in the bed is of high-quality and of superior density for durability.
As well as having quality latex, this bed is very eco-friendly, all natural, and made from organic and sustainable materials. If sleeping on a green bed manufactured by a company that operates ethically matters to you, that’s another merit. The Avocado Green is an excellent buy for the money.
